The Deer Hair Caddis is a variation of the Elk Hair Caddis created by Al Troth in 1950. Imitating the Caddis Fly, it's a trout favorite and a very common fly in North America. Deer Hair Caddis lands trout in spring through the fall, it works at it's best is during a Caddis hatch. You can fish the Deer Hair Caddis by itself on 5x through 7x tippet and tapered leader. My favorite way is a dry dropper setup, with the Deer Hair Caddis size 14 as the dry and a size 16 through 20 Caddis Larva as a dropper.
